Recent Research

Five peer-reviewed studies and clinical resources covering the current evidence base for EFT tapping.

Systematic review, 7 RCTs

EFT for anxiety disorders (2025)

A 2025 systematic review of seven randomized controlled trials involving 506 participants reported lower anxiety symptoms in no-treatment comparisons. Against active controls, results were similar or better than breathing therapy and progressive muscle relaxation, and showed no significant difference from CBT. The review notes variation in study methods and a need for higher-quality trials.

Theoretical and clinical paper

Psychological mechanisms of EFT (2026)

A 2026 theoretical proposal outlines potential active ingredients and mechanisms in Clinical EFT. It discusses more than 200 published energy-psychology studies but is not itself a systematic review.

Randomized clinical trial

EFT for chronic pain (2025)

A 2025 randomized clinical trial of 147 adults reported lower pain severity and interference after a six-week EFT program, with results sustained at six months in the per-protocol analysis. Quality-of-life findings were also sustained. The same trial found no significant effects on anxiety, depression, or life satisfaction measures.

Clinical guidelines

PTSD treatment guidelines for Clinical EFT (2018)

A 2018 paper sets out Clinical EFT guidance for PTSD based on literature and practitioner input. It describes a stepped-care approach, while individual needs and licensed care remain important.

Randomized clinical trial
